Adequan USEA Gold Cup Series
The Adequan USEA Gold Cup Series is modeled somewhat after other successful sports series such as NASCAR. The Series runs at the Intermediate and Advanced levels (the two highest levels of competition), and is based on a cumulative points system, with horse/rider pairs earning points at the 12 premier USEA recognized competitions that hold Gold Cup divisions throughout the year. Competitors are also rewarded with additional points on the leaderboard for specific accomplishments, such as going double clear on cross-country or in show jumping, or better yet finishing on their dressage score.
At the end of the year, at the USEA Annual Meeting and Convention in St. Louis, Missouri, a grand prize Gold Cup trophy
and Amerigo saddle will be awarded to the rider from each division with the most points at the end of the year. In addition,
the Gold Cup champion at the advanced level receives a check from the USEA for $6,000, and the intermediate champion receives
a check for $4,000. The second placed rider at Advanced wins a $3,500 Bit of Britain gift certificate, and their Intermediate
counterpart wins a $2,500 gift certificate.
Winners of the Gold Cup divisions at each event will take home a front and hind pair of Nunn Finer American Style brushing boots. The second and third place finishers at each event will receive a front and hind pair of Nunn Finer brushing boots.
In 2004 seven of the top events in the U.S. signed on to offer Gold Cup divisions. For 2005 the Series expanded to ten events, including the return of five of the previous year's host competitions and the addition of five new events. This year's calendar includes all of the 2005 events, with the addition of two new Atlantic division competitions - the Southern Pines Horse Trials at the Carolina Horse Park in Raeford, North Carolina; and The Fork Stables in Norwood, North Carolina.
With events scattered throughout seven USEA Areas, from the West Coast to the Rockies, across the Great Lakes to the Atlantic Ocean, competitors from every corner of the country will have the opportunity to vie for the title of Gold Cup champion. And as the concept grows, the long-term goal is to expand throughout the levels of competition so that some day soon riders at every level will have the chance to become "Keepers of the Cup!"
